Local Gardeners Meeting the Demand for Home-Grown Food

Local gardeners prepare for a season of home-grown food.

Nanticoke Gardens in Endicott is setting up for the start of its 40th season tomorrow. They specialize in bedding plants, with over 50 varieties of tomatoes and 20 varieties of peppers for sale.

The owners say they are seeing a growing demand for home-grown vegetables:

"You can save money on groceries, it's fun, you know what's going into it, you've seen it from a young plant to the actual finished product.  So there's something rewarding about that," said Peter Shafer, co-owner of Nanticoke Gardens.

Nanticoke Gardens will be open for business Monday through Saturday until June.
