Vestal Board Of Education Adopts Budget
4/11/2013 (Updated 10:51:56 PM)Vestal taxpayers now know how much money they'll be asked to approve, or reject, when they vote on the school budget this May.
The Vestal Board of Education has approved a school budget of $73.4 million.
On Wednesday, the board passed the budget --designed to solve a nearly two million dollar gap between the district's projected revenue and expenses. The superintendent says they also adopted a 2.95 percent tax levy which is under the allowable levy of 3.45 percent.
The district will cut seven teaching positions and eight teachers-aid positions. He says the budget is enrollment driven.
"A good portion of these reductions are related to right sizing the districts. Since 2006, K-5, we've had a decrease of 18% in student population," said Superintendent Mark LaRoach
He says two K-5 teachers will be cut. The other five positions will be cut from the middle school.
