Local Church Discusses Immigration
4/7/2013 (Updated 10:57:56 PM)BINGHAMTON -- A Binghamton church group is working to inspire the community to help local immigrants.
The Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation hosted a panel of speakers Sunday to share personal stories about the hardships of becoming an American Citizen. Speakers say they hope to raise awareness about the large immigrant population in Broome County and motivate others to advocate for immigration reform at the local legislative level.
"Immigrants bring culture, diversity. They bring fresh energy and value to the community," said Reverend Douglas Taylor of the UUCB.
Taylor says if you are interested in helping the local immigrant community, you could tutor students who speak English as a second language.
