State Police Encourage Drivers To "Move Over"
3/29/2013 (Updated 10:57:21 PM)State Police are cracking down on drivers who do not slow down when they see emergency or hazard vehicles on the side of the road. From April first through the seventh--there will be increased patrols on the roads enforcing the speed limit and the "Move Over Law."
The law went into effect in January 2011 in honor of officers who were killed while their patrol vehicles were on the side of the road. It requires drivers to reduce speed when near emergency or hazard vehicles. On highways with multiple lanes, drivers are required to move over a lane away from the vehicle.
In 2012 State Troopers issued over 12,000 tickets to violators of the law.
