Budget Cuts Money Towards Agencies for Developmental Disabilities
3/29/2013 (Updated 6:56:26 PM)Many members of the assembly spoke out against one part of the budget 90 million in cuts to agencies that service those with developmental disabilities.
Cuomo's budget originally called for $120 million in cuts before the legislature closed that gap to $90 million.
Assemblyman Clifford Crouch says Republicans in the assembly offered an amendment that would have restored the $90 million, but it was defeated.
"Quite frankly the $90 million is two-tenths of one percent of the budget. You know there's that much fat in the budget somewhere, programs that we don't need to fund," said Assemblyman Clifford Crouch.
"We're hoping that after the budget is over we can take some federal money that is coming to us and put it back into the services but it's not clear how that's going to turn out just yet," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.
Crouch said he hopes the assembly can come up with an appropriation shortly which could help restore the $90 million in cuts.
