Nurses from our area are helping hard-hit, elderly victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Following the devastating impact of Sandy, 28 nurses from Tioga County went downstate, to administer to patients at nursing homes in the New York City area. Among them was Cindy Perry, who spoke of her experiences Thursday evening at a meeting of Tioga County's Medical Reserve Corp.
"When we went there it was back to basics. We helped people get dressed, we helped people bathe, we had people come to our shelter who hadn't bathed in 5-6 days. They had no electricity, they had no food, so it was very basic care," said Cindy Perry, Family Nurse Practitioner.
Perry is looking for volunteers to help with community response programs.
