Changes to New York SAFE Act
3/26/2013 (Updated 7:18:19 PM)Some changes to the New York SAFE Act is being hailed by local gun shop owners.
Originally the act prohibited the sale of 10 round magazines, but recently the New York Budget Bill suspended this provision, allowing the magazines to continue to be sold, but also requiring no more than seven rounds to be loaded into them.
This will allow manufacturers to continue sending firearms New York.
Chuck Sherwood owner of Timber Creek Sportman says that without this change it would have been detrimental to many businesses.
"Without these firearms a lot of us would be out of business. The manufacturers will just ignore the state of New York if that was to continue and ship guns to other states. And some of us may be forced to move out of state to do business," said Owner of Timber Creek Sportsman, Chuck Sherwood.
Under the new provision, loading more than seven rounds into the magazines is illegal.
