Snowy Owls at Ross Park Zoo
3/19/2013 (Updated 11:34:27 PM)
Storm and Blizzard being the names of the two new Snowy Owls the zoo received on loan from the Columbus Zoo in Ohio.
The birds were originally bred in germany, and are here as a part of a breeding program.
Binghamton was selected because of its climate and the zoo's staffing.
"Columbus Zoo selected us to have these birds, it says a lot about our zoo here and the capabilities here and also the community here. You know the community zoo, that we're here for the community, and that they wanted to send them to Binghamton, says a lot about the area,"
Snowy Owls are usually found in cold climates, including tundra, and high arctic regions. It's estimated that there are only about 45 to 50 Snowy Owls in the entire country.
