Burn Ban Now In Effect
3/16/2013 (Updated 10:59:46 PM)A reminder to area residents, starting Saturday, May 16, residential brush burning is prohibited.
The ban is in effect until May 14th. DEC officials say the lack of green vegetation combined with dry grass, leaves and wind makes this time of year a high-risk fire period.
In 2009, the state toughened restrictions on open burning to help prevent pollution and wildfires.
Anyone who violates the ban can face a minimum fine of $500, if this is their first offense.
You can report violations by calling 800-847-7332. To learn more about the ban visit dec.ny.gov.
