Police and FBI agents ended a standoff in Herkimer Thursday morning by killing the man they say is responsible for shooting four people to death on Wednesday.
Tactical teams moved into an abandoned building where suspect Kurt Myers was holed up about 8AM Thursday. Police say Myers began shooting, killing an FBI dog. That's when police returned fire, killing Myers.
"Somewhere on the first floor of the location the gunman began to shoot at the tactical team, struck one of the k-9s. Fire was exchanged with the gunman and one of the tactical teams. And at that time the male, Kurt Myers, was shot and killed inside the location," said New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico.
Police say Myers began his rampage Wednesday after he lit his apartment on fire, then opened fire at a nearby barber shop, then car wash.
