Double Dose of Cowick in B-Sens OT Win

BINGHAMTON  The Binghamton Senators outlasted a comeback by the Rochester Americans with a 4-3 overtime win over their interstate rivals at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The B-Sens have now won four of their first five games in March.

It took over half a period for Binghamton to take the lead, 1-0, as Shane Prince stuffed in a second chance shot to earn his 13th goal of the season at 11:13 aided by Stephane Da Costa and Mark Borowiecki. Rochester forward Matt Ellis would even the score, 1-1, on the power play at 15:50 with the help of Mark Mancari and Mark Pysyk just seven seconds after Derek Grants cross-checking penalty. The B-Sens added one more before intermission on a Corey Cowick tip-in past Nathan Lieuwen at 16:53 to put Binghamton up, 2-1. Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Dustin Gazley combined for the assists.

Prince netted his second goal of the night on a quick wrist shot at 2:42 in the second to extend the lead, 3-1. Prince now has six points in his last five games. The Amerks came back within one, 3-2, with just 15 seconds left in the second as Maxime Legault smacked in a rebound courtesy of Nick Crawford and Rick Schofield.

Rochester started the third period red hot as Zemgus Girgensons tied the game, 3-3, only 53 seconds into the period. Mancari drew the lone assist. Scoring halted for the remainder of the third period, and both teams went to overtime.

With 58 seconds remaining in overtime, Cowick put the game away on an odd angle shot that found a hole on Lieuwens blocker side to give the B-Sens the win, 4-3. The goal was unassisted and Cowicks second of the night. Nathan Lawson stopped 41 of 44 shots to earn his third-straight victory. Lieuwen stopping 34 of 38 shots faced.
