BU Students Raise Money For Citizen U
3/7/2013 (Updated 11:12:56 PM)
At risk high school students that participate in the University run Citizen U program were honored with a presentation and a dance party Thursday night to thank them for their multiple service projects around the Southern Tier. While the night out serves as a gesture of appreciation and a fundraiser to support Citizen U-- the party serves as way to get the kids excited about college.
"Part of the idea of this program is to actually get them to come to campus and to get a little bit of the college experience in a fun way," said Pat Madej, Youth Engagement Coordinator, Americorp Vista. "Maybe that entices them to want to pursue college and want to look into it."
"There's nothing better than focusing on our own community which is very important especially as university students to focus on our community as a college but also our area," said Melanie McCullogh, BU Resident Assistant.
All proceeds from the party go towards buying tools and supplies for future Citizen U projects like the Walnut Street Park mosaic project completed over the summer.
