An extra-special Senior Night for a local Bearcat
3/1/2013 (Updated 10:57:46 PM)
What won't, is this year's crop of seniors, with one hometown favorite in particular.
"I just want to say thank you again for the community support, says BU Senior Guard Jimmy Gray. We love you guys, and thank you."
Your four years in college is believed to be the time when you grow up the most. You mature. Trials, hardships and success mold young men and women into adults.
Though success for the Bearcats has been limited, for Jimmy Gray, the experience has still been worth it.
"I have fans in the community that support me well, and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of this program," said Gray.
Gray, a Binghamton High alum, wasn't supposed to be a division one caliber player. But with hard work and determination, Gray walked on to BU in 2009, even earning himself a scholarship last season, but it isn't the individual accolades he cherishes.
"I've developed relationships with great players, people with great character, and coaches with great character," said Gray.
His current coach Tommy Dempsey, who's wrapping up his first season under the Bearcat-helm, believes when all is said and done, Gray's time on campus will be remembered.
"I don't know how many guys have had better careers than Jimmy Gray, but I don't know how many people in this program have had more impactful careers," said Dempsey.
Though gray's impact won't be measured in wins his Bearcats secured on the floor, the future wins of this program just might have it's foundation laid over the past four years.
"Sometime down the road, when we're climbing the latter, and cutting down the nets, they'll feel like their part of it, because I'll make them feel like their a part of it," said Dempsey.
