Update: Police Investigating Suspicious Walton Fire Deaths
2/20/2013 (Updated 10:55:34 PM)WALTON -- The investigation continues into what began with a police response to a suspicious fire, Tuesday afternoon, and has turned into a probe of two suspicious deaths.
After police arrived at the residence at 294 John Lockwood Road in Walton, two shots were heard inside the home. Police entered, and found the body of a female on the second floor. Flames were spreading rapidly, forcing police to exit.
After the fire was extinguished, the scene was secured overnight, and Wednesday, a second set of human remains was discovered in the basement.
John Gouse, who lives nearby, is the person who made a 911 call after seeing the smoke yesterday while letting his dogs out.
"And I said 'gee that's a lot of smoke for a fireplace,'" Gouse said. "And I dialed 911 and gave them my address and told them there was smoke coming from across the street and they said they would send a fireplace."
"Like I said, with the say the world is nowadays, gun killings is nothing uncommon," said Duke Piroha of Hamden.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, contact State Police at (607)561-7400.
