Tom Jam Benefits Local Musician
2/17/2013 (Updated 11:15:03 PM)FRIENDSVILLE -- Local musicians came together Sunday to help one of their own.
Keyboard player and Vestal native Tom Sorber recently had a cancerous brain tumor removed. Sunday's Tom Jam Benefit at the Choconut Inn in Friendsville, PA, featured a group of local bands playing blues, rock, and and soul music all day long. Proceeds will assist 63-year-old Tom with his medical treatment.
"He's been one of the musical pioneers in this area, he's influenced a lot of people, and he's been a good friend and mentor. We're just glad we can do this for him-- it's a great event!" said Terry Walker, Tom Jam Benefit Event Coordinator.
Event coordinators say it was remarkable that so many volunteers did not even know Tom personally-- but they were inspired by his story.
