Hanna Comments on the NY SAFE Act
2/11/2013 (Updated 11:29:58 PM)
The new law strengthens the state's assault-weapons ban and limits the maximum number of rounds a magazine can have. He thinks the focus should be on how to get guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them, and that there is a big difference in perspectives between upstate and downstate when it comes to guns.
"Not everybody lives in a big city. A lot of people like myself live in the country. They own a gun and they use them wisely and thoughtfully. How do you keep them out of the hands of maniacs? That's the fundamental question. I'm still waiting for good answers," said Hanna.
Hanna is critical of what he calls the overnight process used to pass the NY Safe Act --meaning the way the bill was rushed through the legislature resulted in many lawmakers not having read the legislation before voting.
