Hunderds Come Out to View FrackNation
2/10/2013 (Updated 11:05:00 PM)
The Joint Landowners Coalition of New York hosted a screening of "FrackNation" at the Regal Theater in Binghamton Sunday. The film shows journalist Phelim McAleer as he travels across the country-- he questions anti-frackers, talks with New Yorkers who are harmed by the delay of fracking regulations, and researches the scientific facts of fracking.
"That's the thing about fracking. It's a lot of allegations, a lot of lucrative lawsuits, but no science. So I discovered that there's no science to back up these claims about contaminated water," said Phelim McAleer.
"I think it showed the truth about gas drilling and what our area is like and what it needs," said filmgoer Sandra Davis.
Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan was also in attendance Sunday. He says the film doesn't accurately show both sides of the fracking debate.
"I was just curious as to why there was not one bad thing about the industry. It didn't show one truck-- every well takes thousands of truck trips to do. It didn't show anything about compressor stations. It didn't talk about the cumulative impacts of the industry," said Mayor Matt Ryan.
