5th Annual Cupid's Chase
2/9/2013 (Updated 11:00:11 PM)
Runners battled through low temperatures and high winds, during the 5th annual Cupid's Chase 5k at Ostiningo Park.
"I think I would have dressed warmer if I had planned a little better," said Garret Giscomski, of Endicott.
"When the sun is beating down and less wind its pretty good but other wise good race good time," Ethan Elliott, race participant.
Although all the focus was on the runners, the race wouldn't have been possible without the help from BCC. The college uses the race as an opportunity to teach its criminal justice students.
"As far as set up and training, the students go through a 20 minute briefing on how to direct traffic. Some of them are first aid EMT certified so we have a med kit in the car," said Wes Warrem, Chairman for Criminal Justice Program
Many runners were in it for the competition.
"I place 4th, said Elliot.
"I place 3rd with a 19 minute time," said Giscomski.
But all of them were in it for charity. The proceeds from the race went to Community Outreach, a nonprofit organization that serves people with disabilities.
