Design of "new" MacArthur begins develop
2/5/2013 (Updated 2/6/2013 9:46:47 AM)
Although the outward shape might not look too radically different, it's concept will be quite a step in a new direction. The new structure will replace the old school which was devastated by the flood. While it will be designed to resist flooding, the courses of nature won't be forgotten.
"The old MacArthur was a very traditional '50s Baby Boomer school," Peter Larson from Ashley McGraw Architects. "This one incorporates a lot of green technology, a lot of understanding of how the river works and how flooding happens routinely along the Vestal Parkway and how to accommodate that rather than building tall walls. We're developing the site to allow that to happen."
Public hearings on the new design could begin in April.
