Gold Medalist Passes out During Speech
2/4/2013 (Updated 9:15:22 PM)
Shannon Miller, who won gold as a gymnast in 1996, passed out while giving her speech at the Celebrating Women in Athletics Luncheon Monday.
Miller's representative says she suffered light headedness, was evaluated by medical professionals and is now doing fine.
Miller, a cancer survivor said before the luncheon she has drawn on lessons she learned in sports to help her in life.
"Overcoming injuries, other obstacles, I relied on those challenges and how to get through those challenges with my battle with cancer. I know I had to rely on goal-setting. I had to rely on a positive attitude," said Miller.
Miller won a pair of gold medals in 1996. The eighth annual luncheon raises money for the Binghamton University Athletic Clubs Women's Scholarship fund.
