Water Issues at Pride Manor in Conklin

(Source: Jason Weinstein)

Jackie Van Wert is one of a number of residents of the Pride Manor development in Conklin who say their water has alternated between being black, brown, clear, or not running at all.

"No one let's us know anything. We find out from neighbors that we have no water. My daughter had school this morning. I couldn't even give her a shower. I had to wash her up with rags," said Pride Manor resident Jackie Van Wert.

"This past weekend we've had nothing. From Friday night, Saturday morning, it was on briefly in the morning. And then from Saturday in the afternoon until this morning at 9:30 Monday morning we finally had water," said Pride Manor resident Fred Smith.

But there could be hope for these residents. Even those who say they've had problems over the past days say their water was running this morning. And according to the Town of Conklin the development was hooked up to the town's water supply over the weekend.

"Hopefully where it stands right now it's going to be OK because we have it now. But they still haven't let us know if we can drink it yet. We've had to find out it was town water through the town. They never let us know. We thought it was still well water," said Van Wert.

The manager for the complex did not offer comment when contacted. Conklin code officer Bob Jones says now that Pride Manor is hooked up to the town supply there shouldn't be any issues with the quality of the water. It will be a matter of the plumbing being able to handle the new supply. Residents are skeptical but they're hopeful.

"I'm hoping problem solved. We'll see throughout the day goes on. So hopefully it stays on and it's OK to use," said Van Wert.
