Lady Bearcats lose to first place Great Danes

ALBANY, N.Y. Ebone Henry scored a game-high 22 points, leading Albany (18-3, 9-0 AE) to a 69-41 win over Binghamton (4-18, 3-6 AE) in an America East womens basketball game on Saturday afternoon at SEFCU Arena. The game was regionally televised by Time Warner Sports.

The Great Danes, who won the conference title last year, extended their winning streak to 10 games by shooting 48 percent from the floor.  Shereesha Richards added 12 points off the bench while Julie Forster chipped in 10 points.

For the Bearcats, sophomore forward Sherae Swinson scored a team-high 12 points, marking the fifth time in the past six games she has reached double figures in scoring. Senior guard Mallory Lawes added 10 points.

Henry scored 11 of her points in the first half, as the Great Danes took a 33-16 lead at the break. Swinson netted eight of her points in the opening 20 minutes but the Bearcats shot just 23 percent from the floor (5-of-22).

Albany is a very good team, head coach Nicole Scholl said. They are very well coached. They put a lot of defensive pressure on us in the first half. I do think we settled down and played much better in the second half.

In the opening 3:03 of the second half, Lindsey Lowrie buried a pair of three pointers as Albany stretched their lead to 44-21. Lawes, however, capped a 7-0 run with five straight points, trimming the deficit to 50-35 with 11:27 remaining in regulation.
Albany bounced back from that spurt as a three pointer by Henry made the score 63-39 with 2:30 left to go.

Up next for Binghamton is a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday at Hartford.

NOTE: Swinson now is averaging a team-best 11.0 points per game this season.
