Go Red for Women Movement

You might have noticed a lot of red on Friday that's because it's National Wear Red Day to help raise awareness on women's heart disease.

For 10 years, women have been fighting heart disease as part of the "Go Red For Women" movement.

More than 627-thousand women's lives have been saved, but the fight is far from over.

At the new UHS Vestal a special ribbon cutting and ceremony celebrated the progress that's been made the last decade.

"There is no question about ti that over the years 10 years the women have become more aggressive and asking 'I'm not happy, something's wrong'.  So they're asking their doctors, we want more things done," said Dr. Hisham Kashou from UHS.

"I didn't smoke.  I wasn't extremely overweight.  I did not have a good exercise program which is where cardiac rehab was amazing because you feel that you could exercise without worrying about your heart.  Someone else is worrying about it," said heart disease survivor Gigi Puglisi.

More than 627-thousand women's lives have been saved, over the past ten years,  but the fight is far from over.
