Rennia Running for Mayor?

Binghamton City Council President Teri Rennia announced Wednesday that she is considering a run for Mayor of Binghamton.

Rennia, a Democrat, currently represents the Third Council District and has been on City Council since 2005.  She and her husband also own Enviren Services, a small business downtown.

Rennia says as Mayor, she would bring a different perspective as a businesswoman and she would focus on economic development.

"Certainly any good quality economic development plan is going to have to include addressing infrastructure issues, blight and crime, and so those will be all the basic things-- the back-to-basics approach I would try to take," said Rennia.

"I'm hopeful we'll get somebody that understands you can't just hunker down and say we can't spend any money.  We've got to have a balance between fiscal responsibility and finding agendas and ways to push the city forward at the same time," said Mayor Ryan.

Because of term limitations, Mayor Ryan cannot run again, at the end of his current term.
