Wendy's Walk For Kids Receives Award

An area fundraiser effort is receiving some national recognition.

The Wendy's Walk for Kids, conducted during the Dicks Sporting Goods Open, was named the 2012 Champions Tour Charity of the year.  For its efforts, the walk was presented with a $30,000 check Wednesday at Nirchi's On the Avenue.

"It's an award for the community.  It recognizes the community and how this town continues to support each other and help each other when called to rise to action they do what they've done and we distributed close to $200,000 last year as a result," says Keli Cooper, Wendy's Walk for Kids event organizer.

Last year, 700 walkers raised over $190,000.  Money goes to four local charities that benefit children in the area.  This year's walk will take place during the Open's final round on Sunday, August 18th.
