Paulk's 17 not enough for Lady Bearcats

VESTAL, N.Y.  Morgan Frame scored a game high 23 points, leading New Hampshire (7-12, 2-5 AE) to a 60-52 win over Binghamton (3-17, 2-5 AE) in an America East womens basketball game at the Events Center. The game was the first of a doubleheader and was followed by the Bearcat mens game against the Wildcats.

Frame shot 8-of-14 from the field and converted 7-of-8 free throws en route to her highest-scoring output of the season.  She also finished with eight rebounds, four assists, a block and three steals.
With Binghamton leading 7-6, Frame took over the game during a 12-2 run over a span of 5:30. She scored eight of the Wildcats points during that stretch as they went up 18-9 with 8:50 left in the first half.

The Bearcats came roaring back, closing to within 23-22 on a pair of free throws by senior forward Simone Thomas with 21 seconds left in the first half. Lauren Wells, however, answered with a field goal at the four-second mark, giving New Hampshire a 25-22 lead at the break.

In the second half, New Hampshire reclaimed the momentum, going up 48-33 on a three-pointer by Cari Reed with 7:46 left in regulation. The Wildcats got to the free line 18 times in the first 12 minutes of the second half and converted 13 of their attempts.

Sophomore Vaneeshia Paulk, who finished with a team-high 17 points, finished off a three-point play with 3:36 left to go, closing the gap a 51-46. She wound up tying her career high in scoring, having also netted 17 points against Canisus back on Nov. 27.

Frame and Reed each made a pair of free throws during the next two minutes, extending the lead to 57-48 with 1:12 left to go.

This was a disappointing loss for us, head coach Nicole Scholl said. We played well in the second half but every time we made a run, they pulled ahead again.

Junior guard Jasbriell Swain finished with 11 points, four rebounds and a career-high seven steals.

Reed added with 14 points for the Wildcats while Kaylee Kilpatrick added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Binghamton travels to UMBC on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.

NOTES: Frame and Paulk were the America East Players of the Game  Swains previous career high of seven steals came against Army on Dec. 1, 2010.
