Seton Catholic's First Career Day

20 presenters from careers ranging from engineering, the law, and technology shared a bit of their professional lives during Seton Catholic's first Career Day for 7th and 8th grade students on Friday.

"Before I didn't really think about what I wanted to do. But today has made me think a lot about what I might like to do," said 7th grader Thornton Fauci.

"Social work I've been to. Then I've been to a lot about mental (health) and how a lot of people have a lot of problems and need a lot of help. And I'd like to help them," said 7th grader Colby Farrell.

"They need to see the relevance of what they're doing now and how it can connect to opportunities in the future," said school counsellor Colleen Curtin.

And for the advice...

"The biggest thing is networking and knowing people and also getting internships, asking questions, researching the job ahead of time so you're making an informed decision," said Jamie Jacobs of Riger Marketing and Communications.

"A college degree can get you wherever you want to be as long as you've been good in school so far and you continue that, you'll be able to move on and choose your career," said 7th grader Thomas Davis.

While none of these students have begun their careers, they've picked up wisdom even the most seasoned professional should know.

"If you didn't like doing something then don't pursue it because most likely you're not going to like what you do," said Fauci.

"They don't need to by any means have a decision of what they want to be when they grow up but the idea is that they'll gain some experience and insight that maybe they can use down the line," said Curtin.
