M-E Budge Discussion Continues
1/24/2013 (Updated 10:48:12 PM)
Although administrators are trying to minimize the impact, parents, students and teachers worry that the staff and class reductions currently under consideration won't be the end of it.
The district is trying to reduce a $3.8 million budge deficit. Solutions being presented to the Board of Education include eliminating atleast 50 positions within the district.
Teachers and town residents are concerned what the impact of larger class sizes and fewer electives will have on students.
"I think a lot of students are aware of what is going on and I think you'd almost have to be kind of blind to the situation if you don't understand what is going on and they're trying to cope with it. Just like the teachers are trying to cope with it," says David Beard,
technology education teacher.
"I think Main, Endwell is a great place to live and if this continues, it's not going to be a great place to live because we won't be giving the kids what they really need, a well rounded education," says Ghisline Stewart, former M-E music teacher.
A final budge is expected by mid March.
