No Break in Hydrofracking Debate

There's no break in the debate over hydrofracking.
 
Yesterday, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and Susan Sarandan were in Dimock, Pennsylvania, lending support to the fight by some residents there against hydrofracking.

Later in the day, outside the offices of County Executive Debbie Preston, those opposed to fracking complained that her proposed new county Office of Energy would really be a fracking firm--pushing for that form of energy.  After that demonstration, the County Legislature delayed a vote on funding the office, despite the arguments of Preston, and others, which they presented to us on Friday.

"If we can prove that businesses can come here and the energy efficiency we can offer them and the different types of energy efficiency we can offer them (is real) - that will help," said Preston.

"We're afraid that the information that was out there wasn't accurate and that people still had questions. We're trying to develop a comprehensive office that looks at all aspects of energy," said 9th District Legislator Ron Keibel (R).

Democratic Minority Leader Dan Reynolds says he doesn't feel it is appropriate to spend taxpayer money to fund new offices after a tough budget process.
