Gillibrand, Hanna address gun control

OWEGO -- In the Southern Tier today, Congressman Richard Hanna and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand were asked for their take on renewed calls for gun control:
   
Hanna, considered a moderate Republican, says there are ways to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people, but he's waiting to see what Washington comes up with.  Personally, he says, he supports gun rights.

"For Upstate New Yorkers, guns are a cultural thing.  My family, they're hunters, they're marksmen, they skeet shoot, and it's a whole different idea and feeling than it is in a place like New York City," he said

Gillibrand on the other hand, called for tougher legislation.
 
"Of course we can protect our Second Amendment rights and the rights of law-abiding gun owners.  But we also want to make sure criminals and those who are gravely mentally ill cannot get access to weapons and that's the type of work we're doing," she said.

Gillibrand says 90% of the guns used criminally in New York State are illegal, and are brought into the state illegally, many sold by dealers out of the back of their trucks.  She also says there are ways of tracing such guns.
