Broome County gears up to ring in 2013
12/31/2012 (Updated 6:49:10 PM)
Officials are expecting 3,000 people to come out to the celebration which is free and alcohol free. There will be 12 venues for entertainment, including a hand puppet theater, a kids' carnival, and a puppet parade.
"It feels really good. The community has come together, the business people have come together," said Debbie Menta, Chairman of Windsor's First Night. "We just can't say or thank those enough who've come together to make this night a great success. Everyone has worked so hard and I know if you come here you won't be disappointed."
When the clock strikes midnight, there will be a bonfire for everyone to roast s'mores.
In Downtown Binghamton, the Lost Dog cafe is ringing in the new year with a 1980's themed party.
The restaurant is opening its lounge area to anyone over 21, with no cover charge. There will be three DJ's, a champagne toast, and plenty of dancing.
"I think there's a lot of people who enjoy some MJ and Madonna. That kind of thing. So I think there might be a lot of people here tonight," said Marie McKenna, Co-owner of Lost Dog Cafe.
The cafe has hosted a 1980's theme party before, to benefit victims of the 2011 flood. They say that party drew about 500 people.
