Bishop Loughlin takes home Stop-DWI title in thriller; Patriots, Sabers win Regions

BINGHAMTON -- The 2012 Stop DWI Classic wrapped up another thrilling year with a full schedule of games today. But the three that mattered most were for the titles.
In the National Bracket, it was Bishop Loughlin outlasting the Trinity Shamrocks in double overtime 75-68. The Shamrocks got off to the hot 8-0 start before the Lions finally got on the scoreboard. But Loughlin climbed to within five at the break. The two traded leads all the way down to the wire before ending regulation tied at 57. This one was just too good to end, Loughlin's Javier Delacruz nailed a 3-pointer to tie it at 66 at the buzzer to force double overtime. It was Delacruz and the Lions that came up big in the second extra session and pull out the win in marathon fashion. Khadeen Carrington (Loughlin) scored a game-high 24 points and takes home Tournament MVP honors as well.
The Region I title game was a rematch of an earlier STAC Divisional matchup between Maine-Endwell and Binghamton. In that earlier clash, the Spartans beat the Patriots on a last second buzzer beater. But tonight, the Patriots come out on top. Jaime Curtis led the Pats with 16 and KJ Rose took home MVP honors as Binghamton downed M-E 50-45.
In Region II, Susquehanna Valley beat Chenango Valley 57-42 behind MVP Brendon Normile's 26 points.
