Family in Need Receives Christmas Cheer

BINGHAMTON --  The holidays are typically the most exciting time of the year.  But, for Sigelle Woolfolk, Christmas has always been a struggle.

Woolfolk is a disabled mother of five children and has lived a life full of abuse and hurt.  Her leg is disabled due to injuries from an attack of an abusive relationship.

But this year, Wooldfolk wanted to give her children a Christmas they deserved, something Elaine Luke can relate to.

"I know what it's like not to be able to provide for your children for Christmas..." said Luke.

Luke's purpose in life is to give hope and joy to women in the area who have a rough background.  This does this specifically through her club, "Sista's Uplifting Sista's."

A few weeks ago Woolfolk shared her story with Luke, looking for emotional comfort from a strong group of women.

That's when Luke decided she couldn't resist the opportunity to do what others have done for her.

"So I contacted my friends at Silver and Gold Expressions and we teamed up to make Christmas happen for this family," said Luke.  "Someone did it for me once, so I just wanted to see those smiles on those children's faces.  No child should wake up Christmas morning with nothing."

Christmas Eve, Luke and her husband Gary along with Dawn Salvatore from Silver and Gold Expressions played Santa and gave the children toys and clothes.

"It makes you really appreciate what you have.  You have to remember there's a lot of people out there in need, and this is what Christmas is really all about," said Salvatore.

"There's so much bad in the world and it means so much to me that there are good people out there and I'm blessed to have known one.  Elaine is my guardian angel," said Woolfolk.

Before this Christmas, Woolfolk's son KJ didn't care so much about presents, he just wanted to spend time with family.  "But after this I'm really appreciative and there aren't just bad people in the world.  There's a lot of good people too," said KJ.

Good people, spreading holiday cheer to those in need.
