There will be lay-offs at the Maine-Edwell School District-- and they will start anytime between now and January 10th.

That was the word Thursday night from the Communications Director of the district, Brenda Potsko.

She tells Fox 40 that the number of lay-offs is not being specified at this time --but she does say they will be among non-instructional staff--so as to minimize the impact on students' education.

The cuts are the result of a 3.8 million dollar deficit which the district is projecting for the next school year.

Potsko says that at Thursday nights school board meeting, the superintendent was authorized to proceed with the lay-offs.
We're also told that lay-offs will extend into the 2013-14 school year.
