Vestal High School Community Service Fair

VESTAL --  Singing up to volunteer was made a little easier for Vestal High School students Tuesday.

About 25 local organizations including the Binghamton Zoo, Kopernik Observatory, and the American Civic Association informed students about volunteer opportunities available to them.

Students said they liked speaking with the groups face-to-face to learn more about how they can help.

Vestal Junior Molli Liss is part of the Lighthouse Committee that hosted the fair.

"A lot of kids want to be volunteers but don't necessarily know how they can get and involved, stuff like that, with all the different options they can come and look at today, they are getting a lot of information, a lot of opportunities to help out in the community," said Liss.

Liss and her friends Kelsey Briggs and Nichole Linfoot were encouraging students to sign up for a 5-K race in the spring to benefit a debilitating disease.

President of the PTO Lisa Kerns and parent of a Vestal High School student said she hopes the fair will be an annual event.

"And were all so busy, parents are busy, kids are busy and it's a great opportunity right there at the school were as you don't have to make a phone call to go visit these different organizations. So it's great that it's all right here to check out," said Kerns.
