Test Results: Binghamton Drinking Water not Harmed by Fracking
11/27/2012 (Updated 11:43:15 PM)
Mayor Ryan requested city water be tested for chemical compounds from hydrofracking in Pennsylvania.
City officials had concerns that water from the Sesquehanna River, which flows through an area near more than 100 active natural gas wells, could be contaminated.
"Results were conclusive that there's no problem with our drinking water. what we really are doing is setting a baseline with this testing, and we'll do periodic testing going forward," said Ryan.
No dangerous chemical compounds were detectable at levels above the national average for public water supplies.
