Forks Trumpeter Back from Second Macy's Appearance

In the city so nice they named it twice, Chenango Forks senior Kenny Starr made his second appearance in the Macy's All-American Marching Band in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

"I saw Radio City out of the corner of my eye. I saw it coming down the street and then I was just, 'woah, that's Radio City Music Hall.' Then on the other corner there's Rockefeller Center. I was just there the other night. I was just a tourist, now I'm the tourist attraction," said Starr.

Of the 245 members of the band, Starr was one of only 26 to have earned a return trip back. To Starr, his second trip back was awe-inspiring.

"I'm going to be on TV in front of 50 million people here. So I was just like, 'woah, OK.' This is just that wow moment. Even though I had done it before it was still overwhelming this feeling of, 'wow, this is happening,'" said Starr.

Starr spent five days in New York City, and much of it was spent in rehearsals, turning hundreds of talented musicians from around the country into The Great American Marching Band.

"We're all from around the country, every state. So we have to meet each other and figure out who is who and who plays what instrument so we know how to work with each other," said Starr.

Starr has spent eight years in the Chenango Forks music program. He wants to major in music education in college, become a music teacher, and one day maybe even send his own pupil to the big parade in New York City.

"To share that with somebody, to tell them, 'Hey, I've done this,' and have them go and do that would be amazing," said Starr.
