Early release for former BU basketball player

BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY -- A former Binghamton University basketball player charged with beating a fellow student into a coma has been released two months early from prison, according to published reports.

Serbian Miladin Kovacevic was sentenced to two years behind bars by a Serbian Court after he attacked Bryan Steinhauer in 2008 at the Rathskeller Bar in Binghamton.

Kovacevic jumped bail in the United States and fled to Serbia after the attack. Kovacevic's early release is part of a government pardon which affected over 1,000 prisoners with lesser crimes.
