BU Concludes Veteran's Day Celebrations

At Binghamton University Monday, there was a discussion of ways to help our veterans.

Students, local vets, and their friends and family gathered to talk about the challenges veterans face.

One idea that was brought up was to create a physical space on campus for veterans to come to in times of needs.

"We need to find a way for veterans to interact with each other and also a way for people to share their experiences freely with each other just so there's a support system in place for anything they might need," said the discussion leader Victor Young.

"They're coming back banged up, broken up, their brains are all screwed up from it, and they need to be helped.  The community has to take them in and give them some type of appreciation," said Vietnam Veteran Stewart Goldman.

The discussions will continue on campus throughout the year.

To conclude the Veteran's Day events, there was a flag lowering ceremony by the Binghamton ROTC Unit in front of the Couper Administration Building.

Members of the ROTC said it was an honor to remember those who have fought for our county.

"It's very over looked.  And, that's difficult sometimes when you think about it because our nation has been involved in a lot of wars.  Freedom isn't free," said ROTC Cadet Captain David Safir.

Binghamton University  dedicated the entire weekend to honor veterans.
