Binghamton University Student Have an Election Party
11/6/2012 (Updated 6:47:08 PM)
Hundreds of BU students lined up Tuesday to cast their vote in this year's election.
With free pizza, and music the atmosphere at the on-campus polling spot was a bit different then what other voters might have run into.
And it didn't matter who they were voting for the important thing,
was they were there, exercising their right to vote.
"The point of the election celebration is to draw students into the polls, generally polling on election day is kind of a somber affair. It's very quiet when you go to the polling booths, and we want students to be excited about actually coming into the polls," said Christie Zwahlen the Community Engagement Coordinator.
"I know young people are more apathetic about the voting process, but I think we have issues too, and we're coming out of college and we're all looking for jobs so, you know the economy hasn't been doing that well so it's important for young people," said Daniel Milyavsky a Binghamton University Junior.
Prior to Tuesday's voting, there was a competition for registration.
The dorm that had the most voter registration was given fifteen hundred dollars.
