Local Dems Make Final Election Push

(Source: Jason Weinstein)

Democratic Broome County Executive Candidate Tarik Abdelazim is spending the final days of the campaign hoping to sway those who haven't yet made up their mind.

"There were a lot of undecideds about six weeks ago, probably two months ago. And based on the continual phone banking that we're doing, reaching out, talking one-on-one and going to the doors we're finding a lot of those undecideds have moved to my column," said Abdelazim.

For State Senate candidate John Orzel - who calls himself David to his opponent Tom Libous' Goliath - the final days of the campaign are about stressing his message.

"The collateral damage that's been caused by this two-percent tax cap and the effect that it's having on public school education. I'm still very, very, very much concerned about the impact of hydraulic fracturing upon this area. I still sit on the fence," said Orzel.

Orzel, who has served as Whitney Point's mayor, says he has learned a lesson from his political career.

"Money has a corrupting influence on politics on all levels of government, from the federal to the state to the county. I'm very much troubled about that," said Orzel.

Incumbent State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo is looking for a fifth term in office. She knows time is running our to make a last pitch to voters.

"Vote for people who reflect the concerns that they have. And if they're working families and have a variety of concerns they should vote for the person that they think will work hard for their concerns," said Lupardo.

"I want them to think about their future. I want them to think that this is not just the decision you make on November 6th. The Executive we select will be making decisions for the next four years," said Abdelazim.

Tomorrow we will feature the Republicans in these races.
