How to Stay Safe on Halloween
10/30/2012 (Updated 11:12:51 PM)With Halloween less than 24 hours away, local officials are offering reminders to keep your kids safe, while they are out Trick or Treating.
Leaves on sidewalks may be a bit slippery after Sandy's rain, so kids should be cautious where they're walking.
Officials also recommend that youngsters wear reflective clothing or carry a glowstick when walking on busy roadways after dark.
"A lot of people travel around, kids want the most candy, so just know the area you're going to be in, just in case something does happen that you need to call for help. When you get home make sure you check your kids' candy. Know the area you were just in, you may not know everybody, so check your candy, check through your kids' bags. Make sure they didn't get anything opened or tampered with," said Broome County Deputy Robert Fish.
Fish also warns drivers to watch out for children enjoying the festivities.
