Hunter Safety

Treat every fire arm as if it were loaded. Identify your target and what's beyond it. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, and...

"Don't aim your gun at anything you don't intend on shooting."

These are some of the essentials of handling firearms that you've probably heard a time or two, especially if you've taken your hunting safety course. Rudy Hector has been teaching these courses in the area for the past 65 years.

"Lets face it. I don't care how old or how young you are. You're never safe enough unless you get into something like this," said Rudolf Hektor.

There are some other things to take into consideration while hunting other than proper firearm handling and that's wearing your hunter orange and making sure you stay strapped into a harness if you're hunting out of a tree stand.

"Plan your hunt, hunt your plan and if you change your plans make sure somebody know you've changed the plan of your hunt," said Leo Skiba a Master Instructor.

"Personally I think everyone should wear hunter orange because there's a lot of people out there. The old saying was if it's brown it's down, which is not true," said Rudolf Hektor.

Taking you're ten hour hunter safety course is not only going to help better understand how to keep yourself and others safe, but it's a requirement for buying your hunter's license.

"And it's important for me as a hunter to know that people that are also out there carrying firearms have been through the exact same training course that I have and they know exactly what I know," said Leo Skiba.
