Volunteers Cleanup Downtown Binghamton

You may notice a cleaner Downtown Binghamton,  thanks to many local volunteers who came together for Earth Day Month.

About 45 residents and students from Binghamton University got hands on while cleaning up the city on Saturday. They were assigned to different areas of Binghamton,and with just latex gloves and plastic bags, they walked along the roads picking up litter.

"I didn't really realize much garbage there was over there or like anywhere around Binghamton and how much you can clean up in a short amount of time. I wasn't expecting to fill up a bag but as you can see we all came back with pretty full bags," said BU Student, Shavonna Hinton

"Binghamton, I believe, is in a baby stage of growing and it was also rated one of the cleaniest cities by USA Today," said Cleanup Organizer Sharon Nieminski

The next city of Binghamton Cleanup will take place in the Spring, and officials say they will try to hold it later in the afternoon.
