Broome County Legislature 2nd District Debate
10/16/2012 (Updated 11:51:14 PM)
Incumbent Democrat Steve Herz and Republican challenger Scott Baker faced off at Broome Community College.
Both candidates support of natural gas drilling.
The main issue that they seemed to be in disagreement about was taxes.
"He has also along with the party voted to raise our taxes 21% over the last four years. Businesses are not going to invest in this area if they have to pay a lot of money for that," said Scott Baker.
"Taxes have increased slightly but one needs to recognize and I think I refer to that services need to be paid. Eastern Broome we need the Sheriff's patrol, we need our roads maintained. All of that costs money. We need that transit system. I am absolutely not a supporter of raising taxes Willie Nillie," said Steve Herz.
Herz said he stands by his six year record in the legislature.
Baker argues that it's time for a change.
