Local Reaction to Vice President Debate

Local democrats were watching Thursday night's debate at Party Headquarters

Those in attendance said that it's important to watch the debates in order to make an educated decision in the election.  And just minutes into the debate they were already pleased with Vice-President Biden's performance.

"He may come off as the good guy, the nice guy from Scranton.  He's tough, he's knowledgeable and he knows exactly what he's doing," said James Testani, Broome County Democratic Chair.

"I think he's doing terrific but it's frankly what I expected.  He's firm, he's steadfast, he has his facts in place and he's not going to take mistruths," said Laura Letson, Town of Binghamton, Democrat.

The vice president's performance is a welcome site to the Obama campaign after many criticized the president's performance in last week's presidential debate.

"Every debate is important.  You can't afford to lose debates, it hurts you.  But when you talk about the Presidential Debate, I'll quote Newt Gingrich.  He said 'it's awfully hard to debate somebody when you don't know which particular truth is going to be coming out of their mouth,'" Testani said.

"I believe after tonight, if anyone had any questions, they will certainly be clear that Joe Biden and Barack Obama are our team to lead our nation forward," said Letson.

This is the only Vice-Presidential debate during campaign season.  The next Presidential debate will be held this coming tuesday from Hofstra University.
