Helpful Tips for Fire Prevention Week
10/8/2012 (Updated 6:52:26 PM)
As part of Fire Prevention Week local fire officials will spread their safety message to schools, and are sharing some tips with the rest of us as well.
Among them: make a map of your home, choose a meeting place outside, and practice your escape plan.
You should also mark a door and a window in each room you can escape through.
"This year's theme is two ways out. Two ways out of your home. You should plan for that. You should practice it. Two ways out of the bedroom, two ways out of every room of your house. Set the plan up with the kids," said Binghamton Fire Marshall Daniel Eggleston.
You have roughly two minutes to escape your home once your smoke detector sounds.
And every time we set our clocks forward or back is a great time to change our smoke detector batteries.
