Actors Bring The Civil War to Life in Chenango County

Even though the Civil War ended over 145 years ago, there were a group of soldiers in Bainbridge who were bringing the event back to life.
   
Over one hundred locals joined in on some educational fun at the Coventry Town Museum. The event was held on the grounds of the Coventryville Congregational Church.  Many people re-enacted civil war drills in full period costume, while other guests came to watch and learn.  The event honored civil war soldier and Coventry native John W. Wrench, whose 20 descendents attended the festivities.

"The civil war is probably the most defining conflict this country has been involved in.  Even more than the Revolutionary War because it really defined our character, what we are," said Douglas Besemer, President of the Coventry Town Museum Association.

The re-enactment is held once a year, and the funding for it comes from the New York State Council on the Arts.
