Owego School Plans Not Favored by All
10/1/2012 (Updated 11:09:36 PM)
At the meeting, not all citizens were quite as enthused about the construction of a new Owego Middle School as the district itself is.
A big question was where would the money to pay for all this be coming from?
Superintendent Bill Russell explained that because of insurance, FEMA, and state support, the school district is happy to report that they anticipate no increase in local taxes.
"FEMA is going to fund it," said Russell. "We're going to demonstrate that it is flood proof. That means we have to build it up a foot above the 500-year flood plain. We'll probably go a foot and a half to two feet about that levee."
The district will be consolidating the four buildings lost into two larger buildings.
Floor plans are expected as early as mid-October.
