Johnson City/Endicott Need New Fire Chief

An inter-municipal  agreement between Johnson City and Endicott regarding the chief of both fire departments has officially been canceled.

The agreement allowed Fire Chief Stephen Hrustich to work part time for both departments.

The agreement was terminated shortly after Hrustich's resignation in August.

Fire marshals from both fire stations have stepped in as temporary fire chiefs while officials come up with a game plan.

"We terminated it because he retired you know, and he's the chief listed in the IMA so we're discussing it amongst ourselves where we want to move forward from here whether it's another agreement, with Endicott, an agreement with Binghamton, higher within, there are many different options," said Greg Deemie, the Mayor of Johnson City.

Endicott was first to terminate the agreement a month ago, Johnson City just recently followed suit by canceling this past Tuesday.
